Manufacturing and logistics: connected orders, stock and shipments with AI-assisted planning

Netbase helps manufacturers, distributors and logistics operators connect planning, production, warehouse and transport systems, so orders, stock and shipments move without re-keying and AI forecasts work on data that agrees. We lead with consulting, integration and custom development, and we have delivered an operations and integration platform for a manufacturing and logistics client, who is not named.

The operating picture

Manufacturing and logistics businesses rarely lack software. They run an ERP, a warehouse tool, spreadsheets for planning, a transport or courier portal and messages from drivers. The problem is the gaps between them. An order entered once is typed again for production, again for the warehouse and again for the carrier, and every copy can drift.

Three pressures push companies to fix those gaps:

  • Customer expectations

Buyers expect live order status and delivery times, not a phone call to the warehouse.

  • Digital documents

Transport papers and product information are moving to electronic formats, with EU rules on both.

  • Cost of errors

Wrong stock figures, missed pickups and duplicate shipments cost more as volumes grow.

Netbase publishes an industry page only where it has delivery proof. For manufacturing and logistics, that proof is an anonymous portfolio record, so this page describes the kind of platform and our role, not results.

Key workflows and where they change

  • Order intake

    Typical current state
Orders arrive by email, portal and phone
    Transformation opportunity
One order record from every channel
  • Production planning

    Typical current state
Plans rebuilt in spreadsheets from ERP exports
    Transformation opportunity
Planning fed by live orders and stock
  • Warehouse and inventory

    Typical current state
Stock counts differ between warehouse and ERP
    Transformation opportunity
Scanned movements synced to the ERP
  • Transport and dispatch

    Typical current state
Pickups booked by phone, routes planned by hand
    Transformation opportunity
Dispatch board with carrier bookings and routes
  • Delivery tracking

    Typical current state
    Customers call for status
    Transformation opportunity
Status events from drivers and carriers shared with customers
  • Documents

    Typical current state
Delivery notes and transport papers on paper
    Transformation opportunity
Electronic documents generated from the shipment record

Transportation apps, such as driver apps with proof of delivery and fleet dispatch, are part of the transport and tracking rows above.

Challenges, constraints and regulatory context

Integration debt

ERP, warehouse, transport and customer portals each hold part of the truth. Decide which system owns orders, stock and shipment status before connecting them.

Shop floor and enterprise systems

ISA-95 is a set of standards for integrating logistics and business systems with manufacturing control systems (international), and a useful map of who owns which data.

Electronic freight information

The eFTI Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2020/1056, requires EU authorities to accept freight information shared electronically through certified platforms, with full application from 9 July 2027 (EU).

Product data

The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2024/1781, introduces a Digital Product Passport for product, material and repair information (EU).

Cybersecurity

NIS2, Directive (EU) 2022/2555, covers sectors including manufacturing of critical products, transport, and postal and courier services (EU).

These references frame what a platform has to support. They are not legal advice.

Where AI fits in manufacturing and logistics

Connect the data first: AI on records that disagree gives confident wrong answers. Then automate the reading of purchase orders and delivery documents into draft records, followed by demand forecasts and exception alerts. Forecasts advise planners and dispatchers; AI does not change orders, production plans or carrier bookings on its own. In the EU, AI features sit inside the same NIS2 security scope as the rest of the platform. Netbase works with the major commercial and open-source AI models and tools, chosen per project. Rolling AI out across plants and depots runs as an AI transformation programme.

Services and technologies that fit

Integration is the core of most manufacturing and logistics work, followed by custom operations tools where no product fits.

API integration services that keep your systems in agreement and ready for AI API integration services that keep your systems in agreement and ready for AI

Netbase provides API integration services for commerce and operations teams to connect e-commerce, ERP, CRM, shipping and payment systems so data moves once and stays correct, and AI services can act on it. We build integrations on APIs and webhooks with retries, monitoring and reconciliation, so a failed call becomes a logged, recoverable event instead of a missing order.

An enterprise integration hub is a central layer that moves orders, customers, stock and invoices between your commerce, ERP and CRM systems, with monitoring, retries and replay in one place, and scoped APIs that AI agents can call safely. Netbase builds it as a custom layer on the stack you already run, starting from the flows that break most often.

Delivery considerations by region and engagement model

Most Netbase clients are outside Vietnam, mainly in the United States and Europe. The team works remote-first from Hanoi in English, builds API-first so ERP, scanners, driver apps and AI services share one data flow, and releases in agile milestones. In Vietnam, Netbase has consulted on and customized Odoo for manufacturers and for trading and distribution companies, clients not named. Plan three things early:

  1. Regional scope

EU operators plan for eFTI, product passports and NIS2; every operator plans for the carrier and customs formats of its lanes.

  2. Cut-over timing

Warehouse and transport changes go live outside peak season, with a parallel run; forecasts run beside the current plan before anyone relies on them.

  3. Engagement model

Most Netbase projects are delivered on fixed-price contracts, with scope agreed after discovery; dedicated teams, on-demand support and fully managed delivery, with milestone-based, monthly team retainer or KPI-linked terms, are also offered.

Owner and further reading

This page is owned and reviewed by David (CEO) and written by the Netbase Editorial Team. Other sectors are listed on the industries page.

Usually not. Most gains come from connecting the ERP to the warehouse, transport and customer systems around it.

Yes, as custom development connected to your orders and carriers.

We design it not to. AI drafts forecasts, reads documents and flags exceptions; planners and dispatchers approve every change to orders, plans and bookings.

With the hand-off that causes most re-keying or missed deliveries, measured before and after.
