Netbase engagement models: fixed price first, AI-augmented delivery in every shape

Most Netbase projects are delivered on fixed-price contracts: discovery sets the scope, then the price and milestones are agreed. Netbase also offers fully managed delivery, on-demand support and dedicated teams, with milestone-based, monthly team retainer and KPI-linked terms. Every model runs with AI-assisted engineering and people accountable for the result.

Why fixed price is the default

Netbase is a consulting company first and sells outcomes rather than hours. As AI changes how software is built, buyers want to pay for a working result, not for time spent.

A fixed price only works on a scope both sides understand. That is why discovery comes first: your goals, users, constraints and success measures become a written scope with acceptance criteria, and the price and milestones follow from it. Dedicated teams and other capacity-based models remain available as secondary options, for work that cannot be scoped up front.

Project-based development at a fixed price

Project-based work starts from an agreed scope and ends with a delivered outcome. Discovery turns your goals into that scope; a fixed price and milestones track progress against it.

  • Choose it when

The outcome is clear, or can be made clear in discovery.

  • Avoid it when

The requirements will keep moving every week after discovery; a dedicated team handles that uncertainty better.

Fully managed delivery

In fully managed delivery, Netbase owns the outcome end to end: planning, building and releasing, against goals you approve. You keep the decisions that matter and hand over the execution.

  • Choose it when

You lack in-house technical leadership or want one accountable partner for the whole platform.

  • Avoid it when

You want to direct the engineering day to day.

On-demand support

On-demand support keeps a live platform healthy without a full-time team: fixes, updates and small improvements as you need them.

  • Choose it when

Your system is stable and change is occasional.

  • Avoid it when

You are planning major new features; that is a project.

Dedicated development team

A dedicated team is the secondary option for open-ended work. It runs your roadmap as an extension of your company. Teams of 3 to 30 people combine business analysts, project managers, solution architects, developers, QA and UI/UX, shaped to your product.

  • Choose it when

Your roadmap is long, your priorities shift and you want to steer the backlog yourself.

  • Avoid it when

You have one defined deliverable and no product owner to direct the team.

The dedicated development teams service page covers team shapes in detail.

Fractional technology leadership

A part-time or interim CTO, CIO or Chief Digital Officer works with your executive team or board on a monthly retainer of agreed days for 3 to 12 months, then hands over to a permanent hire. The advisory role can be contracted separately from delivery. See fractional CTO, CIO and transformation leadership.

How every model is delivered

The commercial frame changes; the delivery practice does not. Every model runs Agile sprints with weekly demos of working software, lean discovery and a first release that proves value, remote-first collaboration from Hanoi in English, security built into each increment, API-first design and AI-assisted engineering reviewed by people. The details are in how we work.

Commercial models

Each engagement runs on one of four commercial models.

  • Fixed price (default)

    How it works
Scope, price and milestones are agreed after discovery; changes go through the change process
    Suits
Project-based development and fully managed delivery
  • Milestone-based

    How it works
Payments are tied to delivered milestones
    Suits
    Larger projects delivered in stages
  • Monthly team retainer

    How it works
A monthly commitment for a dedicated team
    Suits
    Dedicated teams and ongoing co-building
  • KPI-linked

    How it works
Part of the commercial terms is tied to agreed KPIs
    Suits
Engagements where success can be measured in business numbers

Onsite work is available on request, at extra cost. Productized modules are licensed separately, either one-time or as SaaS. We do not publish prices or rate cards: the price comes from the scope agreed in discovery.

How onboarding works

Whatever model you choose, the first weeks follow the same path:

  1. Discovery

Your goals, users, constraints and success measures are agreed, and the scope for the chosen model is set.

  2. Model and terms

The engagement model and the commercial model are confirmed together; for most projects that means a fixed price for the agreed scope.

  3. Team shape

The team is sized to the work, from 3 to 30 people, with the roles the scope needs.

  4. Start

Work typically starts within 1–2 weeks after discovery.

Who owns the IP

Netbase keeps the rule simple and scoped:

  • Custom development

You own the IP created for you.

  • Netbase productized modules and Business Division products

    Licensed to you, not transferred.

That split is what lets you reuse proven modules, for example through the SaaS product accelerator, without giving up ownership of the code that makes your product yours.

Changing or leaving an engagement

A good engagement model makes change and exit easy to plan:

  • Switching models

A fixed-price project can move to on-demand support or a dedicated team once the platform is live.

  • Scaling the team

A dedicated team can grow or shrink within the 3 to 30 range as your roadmap changes.

  • Exit

Because you own the custom IP created for you, leaving Netbase never means losing your product. Licensed modules and products remain under their license terms, so plan for them before you exit.

Where to go next

See what these models have delivered in our work, starting with the 4over4 e-commerce conversion case study. For how every model is governed, read the rest of the trust record under Why Netbase; for the usual fit by company type, see client types. Beyond a single engagement, Partner with Netbase covers co-development, white-label work and long-term centres, and our guide to the AI-first offshore development center explains how such a centre is governed.

Choose an engagement model with us

Not sure which shape fits? Choose an engagement model with Netbase: tell us your goal, your timeline and how much of the steering you want to keep, and we will recommend a model and a commercial frame to match, usually a fixed price after discovery.

Frequently asked questions

It is one reason Netbase prices outcomes, not hours. AI-assisted drafting, code review and test generation are part of how the team works, so discovery sets a fixed price for the agreed result; engineers still review every change.

Yes. Discovery scopes the AI feature like any other, including AI integration into existing systems, often as a lean pilot with acceptance criteria, followed by a fixed price for the production build.

Yes. The team works remote-first from Hanoi, in English, joins your sprint ceremonies and uses the AI tools you approve for your code.
