What staff augmentation includes
Staff augmentation adds engineers to a team you already lead. Your product owner sets the priorities, your tech lead reviews the code, and the engineers use your repositories, boards and rituals. Netbase matches the engineers, onboards them, keeps an account manager on the engagement and adjusts the skill mix when your needs change. The service belongs to our Talent & Delivery family.
Included
- Developers, QA engineers, UI/UX designers, business analysts and solution architects
- Matching skills to your stack and backlog
- Onboarding into your tools, code standards and rituals
- A Netbase account manager and weekly reviews
- Security practices: NDAs, role-based access and MFA
- Knowledge handover when an engineer rolls off
Not included
- Responsibility for the outcome of your roadmap: that is a project
- Management of your internal staff
- Onsite presence as standard (onsite work is on request at extra cost)
- Published rate cards
When to use it, and when another route fits
Netbase is first a consulting, solutions and custom-development company. Augmentation is the right tool only when your team already owns delivery and lacks a skill or capacity.
Good fit
- A strong in-house lead with a gap in one skill
- A peak in the backlog you can see ending
- Engineers who must follow your process and tools
- You can review code and set priorities every week
Another route fits better
- No one in-house owns delivery: a Netbase-led project or a fractional CTO
- A defined build with a clear outcome: a fixed-price project
- A known product type: start from a ready solution
- A long roadmap that needs its own team: a dedicated team or an offshore development center
For a new SaaS product, our SaaS product accelerator usually gets you further than extra hands. Every route is compared in the services directory.
Outcomes and buyer jobs
Engineering leaders use staff augmentation to:
A missing skill joins the team without a long hiring cycle.
Capacity rises for a period and falls back when the peak passes.
Your lead sets priorities and reviews the work.
Handover notes and code reviews keep what the engineer learned inside your team.
Capability modules and deliverables
The skills, seniority, hours overlap and length the gap requires
Engineers matched to your stack, backlog and working hours
Access, environment set-up, codebase walkthrough and a first reviewed change
A Netbase account manager, weekly reviews and a KPI view of the engagement
Knowledge handover and documentation when an engineer rolls off
Delivery process, team and governance
Augmentation uses the parts of our six-step delivery lifecycle that still apply when your team leads:
-
Discovery and strategic alignment
We agree the gap, the measures of success and how work is assigned.
-
Team assembly and architecture planning
Engineers are matched to your stack and learn your architecture first.
-
Agile execution with outcome-based milestones
Work runs in your sprints, against your definition of done.
-
Modular and productized components
Where a proven Netbase module would save effort, we say so.
-
Training, rollout and optimization
Weekly reviews show whether the skill mix still fits.
-
Ongoing support and co-building
The engagement grows, shrinks or ends with your backlog.
Netbase delivery teams range from 3 to 30 people across business analysts, project managers, solution architects, developers, QA and UI/UX; augmentation draws on the same roles, one engineer at a time. Work typically starts within one to two weeks after discovery. Engineers work remote-first in English from our Hanoi office (UTC+7), inside your Agile rituals and tools, and support runs Monday to Saturday, with Sunday off. Governance keeps a dedicated account manager and project manager on the Netbase side, with weekly reviews and KPI dashboards. Contributors work under NDA, NDAs and DPAs are available on request, and access follows role-based control with MFA on admin dashboards.
AI skills an augmented engineer can bring
Augmentation is often the fastest way to add an AI skill your team lacks, and every engineer we place already works with AI assistants in a reviewed way.
AI specialists for your roadmap:
-
Machine learning and data engineers
Forecasting, recommendations and the data pipelines they depend on.
-
Generative AI engineers
Assistants, retrieval over your documents and prompt and evaluation work.
-
QA engineers for AI features
Evaluation sets and checks for unsafe output and data leakage.
AI-assisted habits every engineer brings:
- Reviewed AI code assistance. Suggestions go through your pull request review like any other change.
- Test and documentation drafts. Faster coverage and handover notes, checked by the engineer.
- Tool discipline. Only AI tools your security policy allows, on the repositories you approve.
AI in this service
AI reduces the need for pure headcount. With code assistance, generated tests and AI-assisted review, one experienced engineer covers work that once took more people, so we recommend fewer, stronger engineers and check whether a fixed-price project would serve you better. Every AI-assisted change still goes through your code review.

Engagement models and commercial variables
Most Netbase projects are delivered on fixed-price contracts, and when your gap is really a defined piece of work, we will propose one. Augmentation itself runs on a monthly team retainer, with milestone-based or KPI-linked terms where the work has measurable goals. Onsite work is available on request at extra cost. The IP created for you in custom work is yours; Netbase productized modules and Business Division products are licensed, not transferred. We do not publish rate cards.
What moves effort and cost: the skills and seniority you need, the hours of overlap with your time zone, the length of the engagement and any onsite visits.
Technology as an implementation choice
Augmented engineers work in your stack. We match people to the frameworks your team already runs, and our backend platforms page compares the service frameworks we work with.
Technologies we build with
Industry applications
Retail and e-commerce. Commerce teams often need a specialist for a season: a payment integration, a platform upgrade or a performance push before peak trading. An augmented engineer joins for that work and hands it back.
Print and personalization platforms. Design tools and file processing need rare skills. Adding one specialist to an in-house team is often faster than training someone new.
Retail and ecommerce: AI-enabled storefronts, marketplaces and order operations
Netbase helps retailers and online merchants modernize storefronts, marketplaces and order operations, and adds AI where it pays: search, recommendations, catalog enrichment and order exceptions, with your team approving what shoppers see. Results are published: Geo-Tek IT Solutions grew revenue 36% in the first quarter after its new ecommerce platform launched, and an EU fashion marketplace grew GMV 47%.

Adding people to a team that lacks direction. If no one in-house owns delivery, a project with Netbase leading it is the safer route.
