What computer vision development includes

Many businesses that sell custom or visual products handle thousands of images: customer uploads, product photos, design templates and proofs. Most of that handling is repetitive inspection: is the resolution high enough, is the image the right type, can it be cut or printed, which category does it belong to. Computer vision development automates those checks and transformations and routes doubtful cases to a person. It belongs to our AI & Data family.

Computer vision work follows our six-step delivery lifecycle:

Teams of 3 to 30 people typically start one to two weeks after discovery. Work runs in Agile sprints, remote-first in English, with weekly reviews, KPI dashboards and a named account and project manager; checks are exposed as APIs your upload flow can call. Customer uploads can contain personal or copyrighted material, so security practices apply throughout: role-based access control, TLS in transit and AES at rest, secure code review and vulnerability scanning; NDAs and DPAs are available on request.

We stay out of the uses regulators restrict most. The European Commission's summary of the EU AI Act lists untargeted scraping of facial images, emotion recognition in workplaces and biometric categorisation among prohibited practices, and remote biometric identification among high-risk uses; this service covers none of them.

AI in this service

Computer vision turns visual inspection from a manual queue into an automatic check with human review of exceptions. Our practice keeps a labelled test set of your images, versions each model and threshold, logs every automatic decision, and sends low-confidence results to a person. Where generated or converted images leave your system, provenance standards such as C2PA Content Credentials can record how the file was produced. AI-assisted coding and test generation support the build, and every change is reviewed.

Engagement models and commercial variables

Most Netbase projects are delivered on fixed-price contracts agreed after discovery; for computer vision, a fixed-price first phase scored on a labelled set of your images is the usual start. Milestone-based, monthly team retainer and KPI-linked terms are also offered. We do not publish rate cards.

What moves effort and cost: the number of image types and checks, how many labelled examples exist, whether results must be instant in a design tool or can run in batches, output quality for production, and integration points.

Technology as an implementation choice

Classic image processing, trained vision models and multimodal models each have a place; a simple rule for resolution should not become a model. Netbase is model-agnostic: we work with models from OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini) and Meta (Llama), among other commercial and open-weight models, and choose per project by quality on your test set, speed and cost.
