What this family covers, and why buyers consider it
The cloud layer decides whether a product survives a peak and what each customer costs to serve. This family covers:
-
Cloud providers
AWS, Google Cloud and DigitalOcean for compute, managed databases, storage and queues.
-
Edge and network
Cloudflare for DNS, CDN caching, TLS and firewall rules in front of the application.
-
Delivery tooling
Infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging and backups for every environment.
When to choose each, and when not to
One provider plus Cloudflare at the edge covers most products, and cloud accounts should stay in the client's name.
-
AWS
- Choose it when
- You need the widest range of managed services, several regions or detailed access controls
- Avoid it when
- A small product would pay for complexity it never uses
-
Google Cloud
- Choose it when
- Data, analytics or container-heavy workloads
- Avoid it when
- Your team and integrations already sit deep in another provider
-
DigitalOcean
- Choose it when
- A lean team wants virtual machines, managed databases and Kubernetes without a large platform to learn
- Avoid it when
- You need many specialised managed services or complex enterprise networking
-
Cloudflare
- Choose it when
- A public site or API needs DNS, CDN caching, TLS and attack protection at the edge
- Avoid it when
- You expect it to replace the core back-end platform
Implementation patterns we use
Networks, servers, databases and permissions live in version control, so any environment can be rebuilt.
Cloudflare handles DNS, caching and filtering; the application and data live with one provider.
Managed databases, storage and queues replace servers the team would otherwise patch.
Each change is built and tested once, then promoted from staging to production.
Resources carry product, tenant and environment tags, including AI usage.
Containers and standard interfaces keep a later move between providers realistic.
Trade-offs to weigh
-
Cost
Pay-as-you-go suits uneven traffic, idle environments waste money without a monthly bill review
-
Performance
Region choice and edge caching matter more than the provider name for most commerce traffic
-
Scale
AWS and Google Cloud scale further through managed services; DigitalOcean covers most small and mid-size workloads
-
Security
The provider secures its infrastructure; configuration, access and data remain the customer's job
-
Talent
Large-provider skills are widely available; each extra provider adds to what the team must know
-
Maintenance
Managed services cut patching; every extra service adds its own upgrades
Security and operations
Under the shared responsibility model that AWS describes, the provider secures the cloud itself and the customer secures what runs in it. Netbase delivery applies secure code review and version control, TLS in transit and AES at rest, role-based access control, MFA for admin dashboards, vulnerability scanning and penetration testing, and disaster recovery. Backups are restore-tested on a schedule.
How Netbase applies it across services and solutions
The stack is delivered through cloud platform engineering, where we design the architecture, code the environments and hand over runbooks. New products that start from the SaaS product accelerator get the same baseline from day one: pipelines, backups and cost tags per tenant. Commerce builds use it for peak capacity and edge caching.
AI in cloud operations
AI adds model APIs, vector search and inference capacity to the stack, and AI-assisted alert, log and cost triage to operations; engineers approve every production change.

Where Netbase applies this stack
AI-ready cloud platform engineering for SaaS and commerce workloads
Netbase provides cloud platform engineering for SaaS and commerce teams that need a secure, repeatable home for their software, and increasingly for its AI features, on AWS, Google Cloud, DigitalOcean or Cloudflare. We design the architecture, write the environments as code, connect managed and AI services and hand over a platform your team can run, built the way we run our own products.

SaaS product accelerator: launch an AI-ready SaaS on proven Netbase modules
A SaaS product accelerator is a set of reusable Netbase modules for accounts, billing, roles and integrations that helps founders and product teams launch subscription software faster, with room for in-product AI from the first release. Reusing these productized modules can cut development time by up to 60%, and the approach is proven on Printcart, the web-to-print SaaS Netbase built and operates.
