An invitation card printer's product designer, tailored to its orders

Netbase, through its CMSmart division, adapted the NBDesigner product designer for WooCommerce to the order flow of a German printer of birthday and wedding invitation cards. Print files now carry the product key and quantity in their name, and multi-page cards export as one PDF. The client's name is withheld.

The problem

Invitations are personal: customers pick a card format and shape, add their own photos and text, and order a set quantity for a wedding or birthday. The printer bought NBDesigner so customers could do this online, choosing from pre-made templates, custom fonts and clipart or uploading their own images. In daily use, a few parts of the standard plugin did not fit its business. Buttons on the cart page invited changes at the wrong moment, and the print files did not tell staff which product or how many cards an order needed, so every file had to be checked against the order dashboard. Multi-page cards arrived as one PDF per page, which made it easy to miss a page when many orders came in on the same day.

What Netbase built

  • A cleaner cart

The design and edit-options buttons are hidden on the cart page, and quantity is picked from a dropdown.

  • Product key field

A new back-end field stores a product key for each product.

  • Self-describing print files

When the admin downloads a design as PDF, the file name includes the product key and the quantity ordered.

  • One PDF per design

All pages of a design are saved into a single PDF, even when the pages have different dimensions, so a five-page card is one file, not five.

How the work was delivered

The printer found CMSmart while looking for a designer for its store, bought the plugin, used it with real orders and then listed what did not fit. Netbase customised the plugin in those places and left the rest of the standard designer as it was.

What is not claimed

The aim was fewer mix-ups and less time spent checking orders before printing. The public story states no measured result, so this record publishes no time, error or sales figure. No AI feature is part of this project.
